2017-18 IFPA State Championship Series – Registration is OPEN!

ifpa state championship series v2Qualifying for the 5th annual IFPA State Championship Series is now complete, and it’s now time for us to find our qualifiers for the 43 different IFPA State Championship finals (plus Wash DC). These finals will all be held simultaneously on January 20th, 2018, with 704 finalists competing for not only a State Championship title, but also a spot in the 5th annual IFPA US National Championship.

View the final qualifying standings HERE.

IFPA State Representatives should be sending out emails to the top 100 from each state shortly, although most have already done so with our short registration period. Important to note that if the IFPA does not have your email address on file, we have no way of being able to contact you. If you feel you should have received an invitation to one of the IFPA State Championships and did not, contact the IFPA immediately at ifpapinball@gmail.com, or Click HERE to edit your profile.

Registration for all 43 states closes on Sunday, January 7th at 8pm CST. Any player that has not accepted their invitation by that time will be ineligible to participate.

Remember that no player is allowed to compete in multiple IFPA State Championships. Players that qualify for more than one IFPA State Championship will have to make their choice during this open period of registration. This will mean that many states will go far past the top 16 players in order to fill all 16 spots.

Any questions about the SCS, or anything IFPA related, please contact us at ifpapinball@gmail.com

As State Representatives alert us to who is attending, we will be updating the registration page HERE.

For our Canadian friends, the PCS registration page is available HERE.

New for 2018 – IFPA Tournament Manager

The IFPA is excited to announce the launch of the IFPA Tournament Manager for tournament and league organizers.

The IFPA Tournament Manager will be a one-stop-shop for everything an IFPA organizer needs. Once you create an account (done HERE), you’ll be able to submit to the IFPA calendar, submit results, check the current status of those submissions, follow your NACS balance (for North American organizers) and even have some stats available about the tournaments and leagues you have organized.

For any tournament/league organizers that have outstanding results, you will have to create an IFPA Tournament Manager account to submit those results. The ‘old way’ of submitting through the website has been retired.

Stern Pinball sponsors IFPA Women’s World Championship with $1000 in prizes!

sternIt’s fair to say sponsorship of the IFPA Women’s World Pinball Championship is now trending!

Following the sponsorships from Spooky Pinball, Madison Pinball, Superelectric Pinball Parlor and Cleveland Pinball League, Stern Pinball has stepped up to sponsor the Women’s World Championship with the donation of TWO official toppers from their catalog ($1000 value). Both finalists will receive a topper of their choice following the tournament.

This now puts the top prize at over $3000 . . . will it ever stop??

$tern Rewards Winner – Mike Burgess!

In September 2017, Mike Burgess out of Fort Wayne, Indiana moved himself 11,581 spots up the World Pinball Player Rankings. This earned him a “Biggest Mover” award and qualified him for the $tern Rewards Program. The rewards program allows qualifiers to purchase a brand new Stern pinball machine at a special IFPA price. Mike redeemed his reward for a Batman 66 Premium.

Since September ended, Mike has played in 5 more events in 2017, moving himself up from 7942nd to 5394th in the world.

Congratulations to Mike, and remember if you’re interested in qualifying for the $tern Rewards Program, check out the rules here. A reminder for anyone with a 2016 reward, you have 3 more weeks to redeem it before it expires.

IFPA North American Championship Series – Starting in 2018!

Starting on 1/1/18, the IFPA is implementing an endorsement fee that will be required for any event that wishes to be counted as part of the IFPA World Pinball Player Rankings. Please note this is for North American events ONLY. The IFPA NACS will consist of the State Championship Series (SCS) in the United States, the Provincial Championship Series (PCS) in Canada and the District of Columbia Series (DCS) in Washington D.C.
The fees collected will be used to exclusively create individually self funding prize pools for the 2018-19 NACS season.

Below is how the endorsement fee will work:
  • Endorsement fees are required for each and every event submitted to the IFPA that wishes to receive WPPR points.
  • The fee is $1 per player per event for endorsement. (For example, 35 participants in an event would mean a $35 endorsement fee)
  • TDs are responsible for submitting payment to IFPA after results are approved. WPPR points will not be posted until payment has been received by the IFPA. Tournament directors will be able to make deposits into their account via check, money order and Stripe. A detailed walkthrough of how the payment process will work is available HERE.
  • Fees will only be paid based on when results are submitted. For example, a 20 player event that meets monthly is welcome to submit results monthly, and pay $240 over the course of the year. Each monthly event will be awarded WPPR points separately. Organizers are also welcome to pool together individual events into a league, keep their own internal standings for that period of time, and then submit those results annually instead. This would result in an endorsement fee of $20 for the year, however WPPR points would only be awarded one time per year based on that single submission. We leave that flexibility up to the organizers and players within each individual community. In addition, tournament directors are welcome to allow players in their event to opt-out of being included in the results submitted to the IFPA. In that case the fee for those players will not need to be paid.
  • Fees will be broken down as follows –> 75% contributes towards the relevant individual State/Province Championship prize pool, 20% contributes towards the North American Championship prize pool, 5% will be withheld to cover processing fees related to those payments.
  • ALL qualifiers for the various SCS/PCS/DCS championships will be included in the prize structure. In addition ALL participants in the IFPA North American Pinball Championship will be included in the prize structure. Details for those payouts will be available on the NACS official rules page.
  • Canadian Provinces will make payment in CAD, however their contribution to the NACS prize pool will be based on USD.

Rules changes for the 2018-19 NACS season:

  • Best 20 results within a State/Province/District will count for each player (similar to the way the World Rankings are calculated).
  • “Super States/Provinces” expansion of the qualifying field will be in play. Any States/Provinces that have a minimum of 400 unique players and 100 events held within that state during the calendar year will be eligible for that expanded 24 player final.
  • The title for the NACS will be the “North American Pinball Champion”. In addition, the highest finisher at the NACS from any SCS participant will be crowned the “US National Pinball Champion”. The highest finisher at the NACS from any PCS participant will be crowned the “Canadian National Pinball Champion”.

IFPA State Championship Series – June 2017 Update!

ifpa state championship series v2We’re nearly halfway through the 2017-18 IFPA State Championship Series season, and we couldn’t be more excited about the continued growth of interest in the SCS.

Last year we saw approximately 10,000 players participate in the SCS, and this year through June we’re already at 8,000 players that have participated.

We currently have 40 states included in the SCS, which will all culminate in the IFPA State Championship finals. These finals will all be held simultaneously on January 20th, 2018, with 640 finalists competing for not only a State Championship title, but also a spot in the IFPA US National Pinball Championship.

View the current SCS standings HERE.

For those players north of the US border, the IFPA Canada Provincial Championship Series is also currently in progress. Current standings for the Canada PCS are available HERE. A reminder that the Provincial Champions also qualify to participate in the US National Championship.

A reminder that the official satellite spots for the IFPA15 World Pinball Championship will come from the 2017-18 IFPA US National Pinball Championship, and the 2017-18 IFPA European Pinball Championship. The highest finisher in each final that has not yet qualified for IFPA15 will win a free spot into the World Championship.
