elwinPAPA12sm.JPGPlayers of all skill, from all over the globe, came to compete at the 12th PAPA Pinball World Championships this weekend. Three days of qualifying in 7 available divisions, the biggest of which being the battle for the title of PAPA 12 Pinball World Champion in Division A, where 75 players, from 7 countries, fought for 16 spots to qualify for the Quarterfinal rounds. From there, the field then went down to 8 players in the Semifinals, where a 4-player tie-breaker occurred involving Bowen Kerins, Keith Elwin, Martin Hotze, and Eden Stamm for 1 last spot in the PAPA Finals. Keith won the game, and moved on to then SWEEP the Final Round with 3 first place games on Dirty Harry, Taxi, and The Shadow, making him the first EVER back to back PAPA Champion!! Jorian Engelbrektsson finished 2nd overall, Paul Madison in 3rd, and Sean Grant came in 4th. This Year’s Classics 1 Champion is Bowen Kerins, with 2nd place going to Keith Elwin, 3rd to Koi Morris, and 4th to Kevin McCarthy. The Classics 2 Champion for PAPA 12 is Keith Johnson, with 2nd place, again, going to Keith Elwin. Robert Gagno came in 3rd, while Todd MacCulloch finished 4th.
Keith’s Championship win, along with his second place achievements in Classics 1 & 2, earned him 125.25 WPPR points, the most ever accumulated at 1 event in the history of the World Pinball Player Rankings system.

IFPA_6_Winners.JPG6774_247864215502_854970502_8250536_4723361_n.jpgWith 64 players in attendance from 15 countries around the world, the IFPA 6 World Pinball Championship boasted an extrordinary concentration of pinball talent under one roof. After 8 rounds of qualifying consisting of a grand total of 24 4-player games per person, the top half of the field moved on to Match play. The field whittled down to 24 players, 16 players, 8, and then 4… Bowen Kerins then defeated Andre Massenkoff, and Jorian Engelbrektsson defeated Josh Sharpe for each player to advance to the IFPA 6 Final Match. Bowen took game 1 on The Shadow, and then edged out a second victory on Dolly Parton. On game 3, Bowen put up a MASSIVE score of well over 10 million on Pharoah to take a strangle hold on the match, but Jorian put up a fantastic score on Attack from Mars to keep himself in it. However, Bowen was able to win game 5 on Blackout and once again, take home the title of IFPA World Pinball Champion for the 2nd year in a row!! Andrei Massenkoff defeated Josh Sharpe in 9 games to take 3rd place. Read a detailed write up of the event at: http://pinballnews.com/shows/ifpa6/index.html.
