FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
FLIPPING OUT
Who Will Take The Crown As The World’s Best Pinball Player
The renaissance of a mechanical marvel continues across the globe. It is the growing fascination with, of all things, pinball machines. Even in this day and age of how digital technology and AI is transforming our lives, the allure of the silverball has never been greater.
It is a testament to the timeless appeal of pinball and how it continues to captivate every generation who experiences its wonders. And nowhere is this more evident than in the world of competitive play.
For the past 18 years, the International Flipper Pinball Association has been able to increase the number of ranked players to well over 110,000 from around the world. These “wizards” are competing in over 10,000 leagues and tournaments taking place under the direction of the association’s nearly thirty country directors and over 700 official event organizers.
And now, the best of the best, determined by using the official IFPA World Pinball Player Rankings (WPPR), will be traveling to Murietta, California to compete in the 19th annual IFPA World Pinball Championship. Beginning June 7th and running through to Sunday, June 9th , it will be the ultimate test of endurance, stamina, hand and eye coordination and concentration to determine who will reign supreme.
From eighteen countries they will assemble in the field of 80 combatants who have risen to this top summit to qualify for what will be a series of head-to-head battles in a grueling schedule of contests. Who will display the artistry necessary to control the nuances of a 2.6 ounce silver ball? All will be taking on the latest and newest pinball machines as well as some of the most memorable classics of an earlier era.
In addition, also taking center stage will be the 10th IFPA Epstein Cup, named after the late Steven Epstein, one of the most notable people in the world of pinball and a Co-Founder of the IFPA. This unique competition features eight of America’s most talented pinballers facing off against eight of the world’s best flipper wizards in what is The Pinball Ryder Cup as Team USA looks to build on their 5-4 series lead.
It is The International Flipper Pinball Association’s grand celebration of the pinball elite. As a governing body, the IFPA was created with the express purpose of encouraging, supporting and sanctioning competitive pinball throughout the world. The organization provides oversight and assistance to not only establishing pinball leagues but also tournaments and other promotional activities.
“There is an undeniable resurgence in the popularity of pinball,” states Zachary Sharpe, IFPA Vice President, “and this is the penultimate celebration”.
