Tournament Overview
Registration for this tournament opens on August 08, 2025
Start Date: August 15, 2025
End Date: August 16, 2025
Hard to believe this is going to be our eleventh Romp in the Swamp, but we’ve been holding this event since 2014 so here we are. :-)
Last year we said we would steer clear of summer time Romps moving forward, as the AC struggles to keep up in the pinball room during the day with 30+ people and 20 machines in it…but in looking at the calendar this is when we need to hold it this year. We will have the AC checked before the tourney so it should at least run the entire time.
Alright, Romp in the Swamp XI will feature one main tourney and two side tourneys.
Main:
Ten machines in play. Qualifying: Best game modified decay scoring using the matchplay software, 2 plays on each machine with both plays counting (so 20 meaningful games out of just the qualifying). Top 8 qualifying for the finals. Top 8 broken up into two groups of four and then each play a four player game with last dropping out (the two 4th place finishers will play a head to head game for 7th and 8th place) and then the two groups of three will play a three player game with last dropping out (the two 3rd place finishers will play a head to head game for 5th and 6th place). The two surviving groups of two will be reformed into a group of four and will play a four player game with 4th dropping out and finishing 4th. Then a three player game among the survivors with 3rd dropping out and finishing 3rd. One final head to head two player game will be played for first and second in the tourney.
Side Tourney 1 (The Classic Romp XI) - Three machines will be selected (they will not be modern Sterns). You will play best game modified decay on these three games (two plays on each one, both count - so 12 meaningful games in the qualifying round). The top 4 will then qualify for the finals which will be knock out format. One four player game with last place finishing 4th and dropping out. Then a three player game with last place finishing third and dropping out. Then a final two player game for 1st and 2nd.
Side Tourney 2 (The Shark is Working) - Jaws will be the machine for this side tourney (if Jaws is ironically broken at the time of the tourney we will substitute a different machine for this tourney…probably Doctor Who). Qualifying is one play on a single game on best game format. The top 4 will then qualify for the finals which will be knock out format. One four player game with last place finishing 4th and dropping out. Then a three player game with last place finishing third and dropping out. Then a final two player game for 1st and 2nd.
Entry Fee. $10 per player (used to cover pizza that we will be buying on Saturday and IFPA fees; we will ask one guest to go pick up the pizza up at the gas station that is 1.6 miles down the road). You can get your entrees in on either Friday, August 15th or Saturday August 16th. The finals will be on August 16th. If you got your entrees in on the 15th you absolutely must show up on time on the 16th else we will plunge your balls in the finals. It is mostly the not particularly competitive Lake Charles soccer mom (and their spouses) group that will be getting their games in on the Friday night (the 15th); Saturday (the 16th) is when we expect the competitive/experienced players to all play but everyone can select which of those days they want to play their entrees.
Please park smart. We want to pack our driveway full of cars. There is extra parking on the road but we want to fill the driveway first if possible. There is a good deal of parking down the street at the club house about a mile down the road and we can pick people up in the golf cart if you want to park there. We will provide water and some soft drinks and plan to buy pizza for everyone. We encourage people to bring their own snacks to share too. Alcohol is permitted to be brought by guests, but do please be certain to clean up after yourselves as you depart.
We are going to cap the number of entrees at 32, though we are authorizing up to 35 in the IFPA tourney entree software. The reason we authorize up to 35 when we are really targeting no more than 32 players is people inevitably show up with a spouse or child that they did not register and we do not want to turn people down at the door that show up to play…so we give ourselves a leeway with some extras. Note also that we’ve had a difficult time gauging the number of people that are coming to our tourneys (there have been a good deal of game day cancelations the last two tourneys) so we are going to ask that you pay the $10 entree fee shortly after you register so we know for sure that you are coming.
You can register either through TigerLaw on Pinside via PM or through the Louisiana IFPA rep Mike at 337-962-4078. We ask that you register by August 4th, but realistically we will accept registrations all the way to August 11th (and if we have spots its possible we will accept registration after that…no harm in you calling to see even if after the 11th, no promises though).
