Tournament Overview

Tournament Date: May 23, 2025

Full details, including the other festivities of TAPR8 weekend, below:

A. QUALIFYING:

Qualifying will consist of 5 matchplay rounds on games from outside of the Matchplay bank. All 8 games from the B Division Amazing Race finals bank will be used and additional games will be added, in a mix of eras, as needed. Qualifying will be swiss pairings, using IFPA-style 7/5/3/1 scoring.

B. TIES:

The top half of the field, rounded down, will make Amazing Race finals (ex. 45 players means 22 make finals). Tiebreakers will be played off between players with the same number of matchplay points on the cutline for finals. Tiebreakers will take place on a randomly selected game from the B Division Amazing Race finals bank and will not be an amazing race; players tied on the cutline will play one game of the selected game and the top scores on that game will advance to fill the number of spots up for grabs in the tiebreaker.

The winner(s) of the tiebreaker(s) will receive either the bye or the qualification, thereby filling all spots above the bye or qualifying cutline, with all players of the tiebreaker “seeding out” in the order they finished on the tiebreaker (for example, there is a 4 way tie for 2 byes, therefore the players will be playing for the 7, 8, 9, and 10 seeds. The highest score in the breaker will be the 7th seed, the second highest the 8th seed, the third the 9th, and the fourth the 10th).

C. AMAZING RACE FINALS:

The Amazing Race is played in the order specified. Unless unusual circumstances arise, all players’ first game will be Game 1 of the race in the order listed above. Their second game will be Game 2, and so on.
There are no byes in the Womens’ Amazing Race; all players who make finals will play the first game.
