A. QUALIFYING:
Qualifying will consist of 10 matchplay rounds.. All 16 games from the A Division and B Division Amazing Race will NOT be used for the matchplay, to preserve room for both the running of WAPR and techs to get all of the finals games playing as good as possible. Qualifying will utilize balanced pairings, using IFPA-style 7/5/3/1 scoring.
The top half of the field (rounded down to 8, 12, or 16) OR 24, whichever is smaller, will make head to head single elimination finals. In a 12 player playoff, the top 4 players will receive a one round bye. In a 24 player playoff, the top 8 players will receive a one round bye.
B. TIES:
All players tied to qualify or tied to receive a bye will play in a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker will be played on a randomly selected game from the qualifying bank (with particularly variant old games (like Doodle Bug) being excluded in the interest of fairness).
The winner(s) of the tiebreaker(s) will receive either the bye or the qualification, thereby filling all spots above the bye or qualifying cutline, with all players of the tiebreaker “seeding out” in the order they finished on the tiebreaker (for example, there is a 4 way tie for 2 byes, therefore the players will be playing for the 7, 8, 9, and 10 seeds. The highest score in the breaker will be the 7th seed, the second highest the 8th seed, the third the 9th, and the fourth the 10th).
C. HEAD-TO-HEAD FINALS:
The top cut of players will play a single elimination finals with best of 5 matches. The qualifying games will be divided into old, mid, and new picks and any player may not pick 2 games from the same era in the same match. Players alternate picks, whoever won/lost does not matter. Higher seed picks first for game 1. Players may pick to go second instead of picking a game. There are no restrictions about picking the same games in consecutive rounds.
