The Jacksonville Arcade Expo is proud to announce the official details of our IFPA
(International Flipper Pinball Association) sanctioned tournament scheduled for
May 1-3, 2015. Competition in the JaxExpo tournament will earn players
points in the WPPR (World Pinball Player Rankings) standings.
Prizes:
Prize pool to be determined based upon total number of registered participants.
Tournament Schedule
Qualifying:
Friday 7pm – 11pm
Saturday 10am – 11pm
Finals:
Sunday 10am – 4pm
Tournament entry is 1 game for $5, or 3 games for $10. There is no limit on qualification entries.
Players will compete on a bank of 5 games. There is no limit on qualification entries, but only a player’s highest game on each machine will be counted.
Making The Finals:
The top 87 scores on each machine are given points…
100 points for 1st
90 points for 2nd
85 points for 3rd
84 points for 4th
…decreasing to 1 point for 87th.
A maximum of 500 points is available. Top 24 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday. The top 16 players will be split into an “A” Division, and the next 8 players wil be split into a 'B' Divison.
*NOTE: Players currently ranked in top 250 WPPR rankings, or those that have finished in the top 4 spots of 'B' Division previously, are NOT eligible to play in the 'B' division. Tournament official reserves the right to declare any player eligible or ineligible for play.
Finals Format:
The tournament finals will be held using PAPA’s 4-2-1-0 scoring system with four-player games, with three games played per round. The first place finisher receives 4 points, second place is worth 2 points, third is 1 point, and fourth receives 0 points.
For each game, the highest qualifier entering the round selects the machine or order of play, and subsequent choices are made in qualifying order.
If a player has qualified to compete in the finals, you must be present and prepared to play on Sunday promptly at 10:00am. We will be starting both divisions at 10:00am, so all qualifiers must be present. A maximum wait of 10 minutes will be given to a non-present player at the beginning of each round. If after 10 minutes the player is not prepared to play, their qualifying position will be forfeited.
A Division:
The top 4 qualifiers receive a bye past the first two rounds of the match-play finals, while the next 4 qualifiers receive a bye past the first round. Any ties in seeding will result in a one-game playoff on a randomly-selected machine in the tournament bank, while ties for group placement will be dertermined by coin toss.
In the first round:
Group A - #9, #12, #13, #16
Group B - #10, #11, #14, #15
At the end of three games, the two players with the highest total in each group will advance to the next round regardless of their total points. In case of ties, a one-game playoff will be held on a randomly-selected game among the games not played by the group to that point, with the higher qualifying seed given the choice of order of play.
In the quarter-finals round:
Group C - #5, #8, B1, A2 (B1 is 1st place player from Group B, A2 is 2nd place player from Group A)
Group D - #6, #7, A1, B2 (A1 is 1st place player from Group A, B2 is 2nd place player from Group B)
At the end of three games, the two players with the highest total in each group will advance to the next round regardless of their total points. In case of ties, a one-game playoff will be held on a randomly-selected game among the games not played by the group to that point, with the higher qualifying seed given the choice of order of play.
In the semi-finals round:
Group E - #1, #4, D1, C2 (D1 is 1st place player from Group D, C2 is 2nd place player from Group C)
Group F - #2, #3, C1, D2 (C1 is 1st place player from Group C, D2 is 2nd place player from Group D)
At the end of three games, the two players with the highest total in each group will advance to the next round regardless of their total points. In case of ties, a one-game playoff will be held on a randomly-selected game among the games not played by the group to that point, with the higher qualifying seed given the choice of order of play.
In the finals round:
Group G - E1, E2, F1, F2 (E1 & E2 is 1st & 2nd place players from Group E, F1 & F2 is 1st & 2nd place player from Group F)
The order of the four winners will be determined at the end of three games. Ties will be broken by a one-game playoff on a randomly-selected game among the games not played in the final.
B Division:
In the semi-finals round:
Division qualifiers will be split into two groups based on seed as follows:
Group A – #1, #3, #5, #7
Group B – #2, #4, #6, #8
At the end of three games, the two players with the highest total in each group will advance to the next round regardless of their total points. In case of ties, a one-game playoff will be held on a randomly-selected game among the games not played by the group to that point, with the higher qualifying seed given the choice of order of play.
In the finals round:
Group C - A1, B1, A2, B2
(A1 & A2 are 1st & 2nd place players from Group A, B1 & B2 are 1st & 2nd place players from Group B)
The order of the four winners will be determined at the end of three games. Ties will be broken by a one-game playoff on a randomly-selected game among the games not played in the final.
In each division, four players advance to the final round. The final round is conducted in the same manner as the semifinal round. Total scores for this round will determine the ordering of winners in each division.
Tournament Rules:
All Tournament Officials decisions are final.
Qualifying ends at posted times. NO REFUNDS will be given on unused entries.
Bang backs and death saves are NOT allowed.
Major Malfunction Rules:
A machine malfunction is considered major if play of game cannot be completed (ex. machine shuts down, locks up, software malfunctions, etc.).
A technician will be called to try to determine the problem and fix the machine. If the malfunction can be corrected, both contestants will replay the game. In the event one of the players finished their game prior to the malfunction occurred, that player’s score would stand. The player who did not complete the game will replay the game over. If the malfunction cannot be corrected, a new machine will be designated and both players will replay the game.
Minor Malfunction Rules:
A machine malfunction in considered minor if play can continue (ex. stuck ball, stuck switch).
If a switch becomes stuck during game play, the game will be played to completion before a repair attempt is made. Once the game is complete, a technician will attempt to rectify the problem.
If it cannot be repaired, the rest of the games will be played on a machine designated by tournament officials.
If a ball gets stuck during play, the ball search will try to release the ball. The player must remain ready if the ball is freed. If the ball search does not free the ball, the ball will be retrieved and placed in the shooter lane, and play will continue.
Tournament official reserves the right to make whatever decision seems appropriate should something happen that is not specifically covered by these rules. In any case, tournament official's decision is final.
At the end of each game, it is the player’s responsibility to have their score correctly recorded by a tournament volunteer.
Any attempt to rescue a ball after it has “drained” (fallen below the flippers or gone through an outlane) will void your game’s score. Do it more than once, and you will be ejected from the tournament. A slam tilt will result in a score of zero or a game disqualification during match play. If a player slam tilts during match play with more than one opponent, players whose games are still in progress will have the choice of keeping their existing score as a final score or starting a new game.
Interfering (deliberately or not) with another player’s ball will result in a game disqualification during match play. This includes causing a tilt or tilt warning on an opponent’s ball before they touch the machine. Interfering with another player’s ball during qualifying is just plain mean, and may result in ejection from the tournament.
If the ball gets stuck, stop playing and ask for a tournament staff member to assist you. If a ball becomes stuck during multiball (a potential advantage), stop immediately and ask for assistance. If you continue to purposely play a stuck-ball multiball, your game will be voided.
If a malfunction occurs during gameplay, stop immediately and ask for a tournament staff member to assist you. We’ll try to fix the problem if we can. In cases where the game can be fixed but not immediately, we will record your score in progress then attempt to continue the game where it left off. For example, if the malfunction occurs during ball 3, we’ll write the score down, and give you one more ball on a new game. Tournament staff reserves the right to make whatever ruling seems appropriate regarding a malfunction, including termination and restart of a game in progress. No “progress” in a game feature will be awarded or adjusted in a restart or new game situation.
If a game cannot be repaired, either of these will happen:
* If the game failure occurs early enough in the qualifying, the game may be replaced or removed from the qualifying bank. Affected players will be allowed to replay the additional game on any valid game in the qualifying bank.
* If the game failure occurs late enough in the qualifying, the game will be shut down for the remainder of qualifying, and all scores posted on that game will be considered final.
The decision is partially based on time and partially based on game availability and will be made at tournament official's sole discretion if necessary.
This is a family show! Watch your language. Failure to maintain a professional attitude (including, but not limited to, swearing, kicking, biting, stealing, or spitting) may result in disqualification and ejection from The Jacksonville Arcade Expo.
Since tournament games are coming from private collections, it is possible that the bank may be short by a game, but this will have no effect on the method or number of qualifiers. Please thank the people who brought games! Without them, there’s no tournament.
