Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: June 29, 2024
The second of a four day tournament series through the year, with two tournaments per day!
Schedule:
11 AM: 4 player group matchplay, as many rounds as we can start in three hours - $5 entry plus coin drop
~2 PM: Hour lunch break, starting after the last round finishes
~3 PM: Amazing Race tournament - $5 entry plus coin drop
What is an Amazing Race? The short version is, we all play single player games, trying to beat the lowest score set on the machine by previous players. Beat the score, and immediately move to the next round on the next machine. If you end up setting the lowest score, you are eliminated that round.
The highest seed picks where we start, 2nd highest picks the direction we go, and we go from machine to machine until we have a winner. Playing order is determined by finishing position of the morning tournament, lowest finishers go first, with any new players going to the front of the line sorted by IFPA rank.
If less than 16 people sign up, we go straight to the amazing race, seeding by finishing results in the morning's matchplay tournament.
If we get more than 16, we'll do a three round swiss matchplay to cut the group in half, and seed based on those results.
Payouts:
1st Place: 40% of prize pool
2nd Place: 30% of prize pool
3rd Place: 20% of prize pool
4th Place: 10% of prize pool
Extra to this tournament are some prizes! 2DCon, a video game convention in Bloomington, MN will be giving out a weekend pass to a random player in each tournament. More info about the convention at https://www.2dcon.net/
All games will be played at Brewhalla when possible, if the number of players outnumbers the available machines, or some event has taken over that side of the building, we'll use Drekker as needed.
Keep an eye out for two more tournament days this year, I'm aiming for September and December! Three hour group matchplay to start each day, with a different second tournament format, such as strikes, max matchplay, amazing race, etc.
