Tournament Overview

Tournament Date: August 19, 2023

Qualifying will run 11am to 4pm. After 4pm, no additional qualifying matches will be started. We will be using Match Play software. Players will be randomly assigned to groups of 3 or 4. Groups will be randomly assigned to one of the tournament games. We will be alternating modern and classics machines each round.
At this time players will have an opportunity to play(cast) any appropriate pre-round card. Note that some cards are intended to be cast prior to a round; some during a round, and some at the end of a round.
Following the pre-round casting phase, each player in a group will roll a D20 die to determine choice of player order with the higher number getting first choice of order. In the event of a tie those players will re-roll until the tie is broken. If a player rolls a Critical Hit (20) that player will have the option of changing the machine to any tournament machine that is not already in use by another group. During the round, players will have the opportunity to cast any appropriate cards in their possession. At the end of the game, players will have an opportunity to cast any appropriate end-of-game cards. Scoring will be 7-5-3-1 for 4 player groups and 7-4-1 for 3 player groups.
The 4th place player in each group will be awarded one additional card. (subject to card availability)
There will be additional opportunities to earn additional cards via machine-specific "bounties" that will be displayed on the machines. (subject to card availability) Some of these may be skill-based, while other may be a bit more diabolical;)
After each round players will be randomly reassigned in balanced fashion and play will continue as above until the qualifying period has ended. Any unused cards will carry over to the finals.

Qualifying for finals:
At the end of qualifying, players will be ranked based on their cumulative scores. The top 8 players(subject to change based on total number of players) will compete in the A division final while all other players are eligible for the B division final. The top qualifier will be awarded 2 cards while the second highest qualifier will receive 1 card. Any relevant tie will be decided in a randomly selected one-game playoff.
A final
Players will be placed in groups of 4 according according to their qualifying seed. Each group will play 3 games per round with the top two from each group moving on to the next round(or final, assuming 8 finalists). Players will have opportunities to cast cards similarly to qualifying, though please note some specific cards may be inactivated for the finals. Any relevant ties will be decided on one randomly selected machine.
B Final
All players not qualifying for A division are eligible to compete in a 3-strikes group strikeout final. Players will be in groups of 3 or 4 (sometimes 2). The bottom two finishers in a 4 player game and the 3rd place finisher in a 3 player game will receive a strike. Swiss pairing will be used. Players will have opportunities to cast their cards similarly to qualifying. The last player to be without 3 strikes will be the B division winner.
