Tournament Overview

Registration for this tournament opens on June 29, 2023

Tournament Date: July 15, 2023

We've not hosted a Romp in the Swamp tourney at our house since December 7, 2019 and PavBall and I are enthusiastic to host this event again. We are capping the event at 20 players (though we intend to stop accepting registrations at 20 we are reserving the right to have 22 with the IFPA in case someone unexpectantly shows up with a kid or spouse that wants to play, as we do not want to turn people away). You must register in advance for this event and we do expect to fill up well in advance of the tourney.

The side tourney begins at 11am CST on July 15, 2023 and the main tourney for Romp in the Swamp VIII begins at 1pm CST on July 15, 2023.

We plan to use the Max Matchplay format for the event to keep the attendees playing as much as possible. I currently have 14 games setup, so we will try to go at least 20 rounds (depending on attendance, game issues, acts of God, etc.) of head to head play. Depending on attendance, I can bring another 2 games in to keep the pinball going for everyone. Finals will be four people, playing one game with the last place dropping out and being 4th place; then a three player game with last place dropping out and receiving third place, and then a two player game for 1st and 2nd place.

Side Tourney One (Classic Stern Romper): at 11am CST people may play in the side tourney. The side tourney is only on the classic sterns in my collection (Sea Witch, Catacomb, and Quicksilver). Best game format on matchplay for qualifying. Two plays on each game with both plays counting. Finals will be four people, playing one game with the last place dropping out and being 4th place; then a three player game with last place dropping out and receiving third place, and then a two player game for 1st and 2nd place.

Side Tourney Two (Assault That Vault): at 11am CST people may play in the side tourney. The side tourney is only on Safe Cracker. Best game format on matchplay for qualifying. You get a single play with that play counting on Matchplay's best game format. Finals will be four people, playing one game with the 3rd and 4th place dropping out and being 3rd and 4th; and then a two player game for 1st and 2nd place.

You may show up no earlier than 10:45am CST. Side tourneys start at 11am CST and the main starts at 1pm CST.

There will be trophies awarded for top 3 in main and winner in side tourneys. There is a $15 entry fee for the tourney.

Some food and snacks will be provided (probably pizza) and bottled water, but please BYOB.

PM TigerLaw on Pinside to reserve your slot, a waiting list will be created in the order of the request being received for those that do not reserve their slot timely. If you do not have a Pinside account, you can text to 337-3048494 but you need to be very clear what you are texting for and provide all the requested data. To reserve a slot, you must provide your full name and home mailing address (and your IFPA number if you have one). As this is a household with small children, no convicted felons will be permitted entry under any circumstance and we do run an NCBS report on all people we have not previously ran one on to ensure compliance with the no felon rule. Pre-registration date in June 29, 2023.

Parking: please park in the driveway in a manner that allows other vehicles in. We want to pack the driveway, please try and car-pool to reduce the number of vehicles. You can also park at the club house in the neighborhood, which is only seven-tenths of a mile away and have a nice walk to the house (or have someone pick you up from the club house). Please do not park in a manner that will offend my neighbors, this is our first tourney at this house and we want to be able to have many many more.
