Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: February 26, 2022
This is our monthly 5-round group matchplay tournament beginning at 7:30pm. Sign-ups at 7pm. Buy-in is $5.
To ensure a good number of IFPA points and a reasonably early finish, the finals round will use the multi-matchplay format (4 simultaneous 4-player games).
Waterland splashes the pot with $25 and pays each player's $1 IFPA fee.
The top 4 finishers share the entire pot.
Each group will have either 3 or 4 players. Groups are rearranged for each round.
If 16 or more players show up, the format will be 5 rounds of traditional group matchplay with 7, 5, 3, 1 points going to 1st - 4th or 7, 4, 1 in 3-player games. The semi-finals will have 8 players. The finals will have 4 players.
If fewer than 16 players show up, we'll use 4 or 5* rounds of double matchplay format for preliminaries. In this format, each prelim round will consist of two simultaneous games played by each group of 3 or 4. That is, the same group will play two 3-player or 4-player games in the round. This alternate format is designed to ensure that the tournament earns near 100% of the possible world ranking points (WPPRs).
We'll use 4 rounds if most of the groups are of size 4 and 5 rounds if most of the groups are of size 3.
