FORMAT
The series consists of two Open tournaments and a Playoff night.
In the Open tournaments, players will play four 4-player matches, being awarded 7-5-3-1 points based on game score finishing position. We'll use balanced pairings and groups will change each round, so there will be plenty of opportunity to socialize!
The eight players with the highest point totals from the Open Tournaments get to Playoff night.
The Playoffs will consist of two rounds of three 4-player matches.
Expected duration: 2½ hours for Open tournaments. 3 hours for Playoffs. (Tiebreakers may extend this.)
COST
$5 entry fee plus coin drop. Participants are also encouraged to patronize the establishment and tip well! :-)
YOUR FIRST PINBALL TOURNAMENT?
First time players (or any other novices who request it) will be paired with experienced players to help guide you through the tournament, helping with…
* Tournament format, scoring & rules
* Strategic advice on how to play a particular game (if desired)
* Tactical advice on flipper skills (if desired)
* Using the Matchplay tournament app
* Any questions or concerns
PRIZES
After IFPA endorsement fees ($1 per player), the remainder of the entry fees will be awarded as prize money to the top 4 players of each night, split 40%, 30%, 20%, 10%, rounded to the nearest dollar or five dollars at the tournament director's discretion.
Some money will be left over from individual nights (when the same player attends more than one open tournament). In this case, the money will be added to the prize pool for the playoffs.
World Pinball Player Ranking points (WPPRs) will be awarded for the series (100% TGP).
TIEBREAKERS
In the Open Tournament weeks, ties for first position will play a one game tiebreaker. This tiebreaker will count only for the night's prize and will not count toward the series point total. Other Open Tournament ties will be left unresolved. Prize money will be split between players tying for an in-the-money position.
For purposes of IFPA ranking for non-playoff qualifying players, the tied players will be submitted as having finished in joint position.
At the end of the last Open Tournament week, if players are tied for eighth position, a one-game tiebreaker will be played that night if players are available. If not, the tiebreaker will be played at a mutually agreeable date and time. If no mutually agreeable date and time is found, the tiebreaker will occur prior to the start of playoffs.
Participation is open to all. Beginners are encouraged!
