Saturday November 9, 2019 – Classics and Main Tournament (you must also purchase a daily or weekend pass for the facility if you are not an Arkadium member)
Cost $50 total for both tournaments
Due to the unique nature of the format you must enroll in both tournaments. $30 of the entry goes to the main tournament and $20 goes to the classic tournament.
Each round players will be separated into random groups of 3 or 4 players.
Each round consists of playing a modern or mid modern machine (Main Tournament) and a solid state or EM machine (Classic Tournament). Players will play both machines with the same assigned group. Scoring for both tournaments are 3/2/1/0, but main tournament and classic tournament scores are kept independently of each other as separate tournaments. This means you can qualify for both main and classics tournament, make one but not the other, or miss both.
Groups are randomized each round for the 8 rounds. With each round consisting of a main machine and a classic machine.
Playoff structure is a survivor format. This means that all playoff players will play one player games on each machine. The lowest qualifying seed will play the first game in its entirety. The next lowest seed will play the same game until they beat the lowest score to date or finish the game with the lowest score to date. Players will continue playing one player games trying to beat the low score. Once the low score is beaten, the player stops playing the game. The worst score in each round will be eliminated. Lowest seed will always play first, top seed will always play last. No playoff group will be larger than 10 players. If more than 10 players qualify for the playoffs, then multiple survivor groups will be created, which will allow multiple players (1 per survivor group) to be eliminated each round. Groups will be collapsed when it is possible to have equal number of players (within 1 player) under the total of 10 players per group.
For Example: if there are 72 entrants in the tournament, this will allow for 18 playoff spots. This will create 2 groups of 9 survivor brackets. All 9 players in a group will play the same game (2nd group plays a different game) lowest score from each group is eliminated. Next round both groups will rotate to a new game and all 8 players play, with lowest score eliminated. This continues until there are 2 groups of 5 left, at which point the groups combine to make a 10 player group, which continues to eliminate 1 player per round until there is only 1 survivor. If the tournament is taking longer than expected the tournament director, at their discretion, may keep the two groups separate until the final 4 players to speed up the finale.
Note: If there is a tie for the last playoff spot, there is no tiebreaker game, all tied players will make the playoffs.
Cash prizes will be paid out based on 1 payout per 12 participants with a minimum of 3 payouts and a maximum of 6.
Groups will be allocated randomly, and randomization of machines will be set to minimize playing same players and machines when possible. Playoff machines will be determined ahead of time by the tournament directors based on a random draw that we will do well in advance of the tournament to save time on tournament day. This information will be posted to all before the tournament.
