Tournament Overview

Tournament Date: March 02, 2019

This is a best game qualifier followed by a match play style playoff.
Qualifying for this tournament will start at 10AM and continue through the the end of league night which will be around 9PM. the playoffs will start after league is finished which should be around 9:30PM. This tournament is free and you don't have to be a part of league or knockout tournament to participate. You do need to send me an email at ekthoren@yahoo.com saying you want to play by March 1st. I do have a knockout tournament starting at 11AM on this day and league staring at 6PM. If you are not participating in the league or knockout tournament then you may only play on the machines that are dedicated for this tournament. Once you have played your qualifying games you can sit in the waiting area or leave and come back to see if you made the finals.
Qualifying will consist of everyone playing 1 game each on 2 different machines. You will get points based on your score against the whole field using IFPA ranking 1st 100pts, 2nd 90 points, 3rd 85 points, 4th 84 then 83,82,81 etc.
The IFPA scores from the 2 games are then added together. The Top 16 if we have more than 32 in qualifying or top 8 if we have less than 32 will do a playoff. The playoff will consist of 3 rounds of 4 games (if 16 in finals) or 2 rounds of 4 games (if less than 32 in qualifying).
If 16 people playoff you will be seeded according to qualifier: A group (1,8,9,16) B Group (3,6,11,14), C group (4,5,12,13) and D group (2,7,10,15). Groupings of games will be pre-selected in advance. Highest seed gets to choose their play order 1st then next highest seed chooses their order etc. The order you choose will be the same on all 4 tables. Multi-match means that all 4 games will be played at the same time with player 1 playing the first ball on game 1; then when that ball drains they move on to game 2 and plays ball 1; meanwhile player 2 steps up to the first game and plays ball 2, etc. Both groups play their 4 games and write down 7-5-3-1 on each game depending on their score. Those scores are added up. The top 2 continue to the finals. The bottom 2 are eliminated. A tie between 2nd and 3rd place in this grouping will be broken with a 1 game playoff on the alternate machine chosen in advance or a randomly drawn game if the alternate was used. Play order for the tiebreaker is determined by highest seed in qualifier gets to choose their order 1st. You will receive a ranking based on their IFPA scores on those 4 games. For example if eliminated player 1 scores 12 points and eliminated player 2 scores 15 points then in the final ranking that is submitted to IFPA player 2 will be ranked higher than player 1. This is true for all 4 groupings because they will be put together and the points earned will be used to determine final position. So this way the 8 players eliminated will not all be tied for same position.
The playoff then continues with 8 players. The 2 winner from A and C group will be combined and play each other and the 2 winners from B and D group will be combined to play each other in another 4 game multi-match play. Then the 1st and 2nd from each of these grouping will advance to the final four and 3rd and 4th will have their final position based on the amount of points they earned in this particular round. The playoff will then continue with the final four in the same manner with another 4 game multi-match play. TIe for 1st will play another whole game to determine the winner.
For 8 players in the Playoff: You will be seeded according to qualifier; A group(1,4,5,8) and B group (2,3,6,7). A and B groups will do a 4 round, multi-match game, with IFPA group match play scoring. This is true for both the A and B groupings because they will be put together and the points earned will be used to determine final position. So this way the 4 players eliminated will not all be tied for same position.
The playoffs continue with the top 4 players playing 4 games simultaneously to determine the winner. Seeding for the final 4 will be based on the qualifying round. A tie for 1st place will result in a 1 game playoff chosen at random. All other ties will stand.
