Tournament Format:
The Maine Pinball Equinox tournament will be run in three parts: Pinburgh style Match Play, Survival Rounds, and finally, NEPL style Match Play.

Part one:

Pinburgh Style Match Play - Four players on 1 machine, for three games, for three rounds. Machines will be randomly assigned. Yes, you will be playing the same machine for three games!
For the first game of the first match, play order will be chosen from top seed down. For the second and third games play order will be chosen from loser up. Initial seeding will be based on IFPA ranking. And each group will be formed as follows:
1,9,17,25....
8,16,24,32

If a player is unranked they will be randomly placed at the bottom of the list.
At the end of the first round players will be ranked by their win/loss record and reseeded. Ties will be broken by a randomizer. Play will continue for two more rounds. After three rounds the field will be split in half to form A and B divisions based on win/loss records.

Part Two:

Survival Rounds - Match Play with the last place eliminated until each division is down to 4 players. Play will be identical for both divisions. For the first round there will be 4 groups of 4 players. Each group will be assigned a random game. At the end of the match the last place finisher will receive one strike. Play continues until a player has received two strikes, at which point they are eliminated from the tournament. Now the remaining 3 players in each group are assigned a new random game. Again the last place finisher will receive a strike. Strikes from the previous matches carry over so if you come in last and had already earned a strike in the previous match you will now be eliminated. Now the remaining 2 players will be assigned a new game and play head to head. The winner moves on to the final four. In other words, don’t come in last twice during the survival rounds!
Play order for each game is chosen by top seed. The remaining players choose their order in descending order of seeding.
Any players who were eliminated during the same round will play a tie-breaker match on one randomly assigned machine. Seeding for this match will be based upon their seeding going in to the Survival Rounds.

Part Three:

NEPL Style Match Play - Seeding will be based on rank from the end of part one. Each player chooses a game and goes first on that game. Play order will be on the sheets. Scoring will be 5, 3,2,1. The highest score wins.
