Tournament Overview
Start Date: September 01, 2017
End Date: October 23, 2017
The Tri-State Selfie League is a multi-location qualifying league including locations in both NYC and New Jersey. Starting with the final season of 2017 and moving forward the league will now consist of 8 unique locations. I am proud to announce ALL our hosting venues will be donating gift certificate prizes for finals and as door prizes each season meaning our value for prizes has significantly gone up now with 9 sponsors ($250+ in value)! We will also now be using matchplay software which allows players to conveniently directly submit their selfies and have scores recorded and standings updated immediately. If you make an account on match play and find the event you can register yourself, each location will be listed as a different tournament ie – TSSSL Sunshine – where you can register yourself and submit scores directly by taking a picture.
The follow locations will now be used in league.
Sunshine Laundromat and Pinball - Primary
The Morristown Game Vault - Primary
Modern Pinball NYC – Primary
8 on the Break
Pioneers Bar
Milo’s Yard
Solid State
Jackbar
Due to the anticipated amount of qualified players in finals and the number of total games needed (theoretically 10 plus back ups) to host both A and B division each session, only primary locations will host finals. These primary locations are not only those with the most games, but also have longer tenure in league and history of good attendance. For that reason they will have advantages in qualifying. To keep in the spirit of equal contribution to SCS for both NY and NJ, the rotation each year for the 4 seasons will be: Modern Pinball NYC, The Vault, Sunshine, The Vault.
New rules regarding byes and # of qualifiers:
Each location will qualify the top 5 players for finals for a maximum of 40 A finalists. Everyone else will be qualified for B finals. In the case that less than 40 players attend finals the B division will consist of all players eliminated after the first round. In the case that more than 40 players attend finals B division will consist of the players that were eliminated in round 1 of A plus all B qualifiers.
Previously we had a variation on pinburgh finals due to a lower number of qualifiers, now that we can allow up to 40 finalists we will copy the pinburgh bracket EXACTLY – which is 4 double byes, 12 single byes, and 24 other finalists. First round those 24 play in groups of 4, 12 advance bringing in the 12 single byes, 12 advance bringing in the 4 double byes, 8 advance, 4 advance, winner – 5 rounds.
Each primary location – Sunshine, Modern and the Vault will have the top seed earn a double bye, seeds 2-3 earn a single bye with 5 total qualifiers per location. All other locations will be guaranteed a minimum of a single bye for the top seed, and 5 qualifiers per location. However, amongst the non-primary locations each season the one with the best attendance (in total number of players) will be given the same bye structure as a primary location with a double bye to the winner and a single bye for seeds 2-3. This means a location is rewarded for its player base and participation. Any non-primary location that has best attendance for consecutive seasons will be considered for a promotion. In turn, any primary location that has low attendance will be considered for demotion etc. Please keep in mind all venues are sponsoring us so let’s reward them by playing there! Without paying any league dues or finals entrance simply submitting your score FOR FREE gives you a chance to win prizes all year round.
Qualifying:
All players who submit 2 scores or more at a location will count towards the final results. Only a player’s best result will effect final seeding for finals. This is determined by highest seed earned, where the higher number of points is used if a player finishes 1st in more than one location etc. Seed works as such, all 1 seeds in point total order, all 2 seeds in point total order, all 3 seeds in point total order, etc.. Each location will have 4-6 games available in qualifying where your 4 best games count, 100-90-85-84-83… scoring. Now that match play allows you to log in, register to the location and submit your scores yourself.
Finals:
All players who attend finals will pay their league dues of $5 to help contribute towards the costs of trophies, IFPA fees starting 2018 and other non monetary prizes I will provide. The entry for finals including your dues will be $20 for all players ranked in the top 1000 and $15 for all players ranked 1001+. Any extra league dues will be redistributed back into the prize pool. The qualifying portion of league is FREE to play in and all players who submit 2 or more scores at a single location will be eligible for randomly awarded door prizes such as Stern translites, gift certificates from our vendors, and t-shirts. The finals each session will guarantee a trophy to each division winners, cash payout to 1-4 in A and 1-2 in B, as well as tons of other prizes as described above. The finals format will be pinburgh style (please see above for details on pinburgh bye structure) where a 4 player group plays 4 games with 3-2-1-0 scoring, whereas the top 2 in each group advance to the next round. At the Vault and Modern we will use pinburgh style game banks, and at Sunshine there will be a designated number of games for A and B where the highest seed in a group can pick any 2 of games from each era “Williams/bally/data east” and “stern” to make up their bank for that round, however; once a game is selected by a player it may never be selected by them again after that. B division each session is a side tournament that DOES NOT impact final standings in the actualy league and will be run as either a pinburgh style with banks or strikes TBD by Greg based of the number of participants. Final rulings are that of the tournament director and orgnaizers.
