Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: February 16, 2017
GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. We are running a two-strike knockout tournament day. We have registered 4 tournaments and plan to run them consecutively with a short break between each one.
2. We may not get through all four tournaments but it is better to register more than less. The cut-off time for the start of the last tournament will be 4 pm.
3. Registration, warm-up and questions form players 11-11.45am
4. Approximate start times:
Tournament #1: 11.45am-1
Tournament #2: 1.15-3
Tournament #3: 3.15-5
5. The tournament is open to all players, but is mainly aimed at players who haven't played in five tournaments yet and therefore are not rated.
6. You can go whenever you like. Stay for all tournaments or just play in one. There will probably be 10 - 12 machines in use on the day.
7. Each tournament will be a two strike knockout format using matchplay events. Each tournament will have a slightly different format to make it interesting.
8. For each round in each tournament you will be allocated an opponent and a machine to play one game on. Whoever loses that game has one strike. You stay in the tournament until you lose two matches (two strikes). With this format you get a second chance and as the tournament goes quickly if you get knocked out you can play in another tournament on the day.
9. ENTRY FEE: $25 for the day.
10. On the day players should have their IFPA # ready, to save time. Just Google IFPA and your name to get your # if you have one.
11. On the day, to make the tournaments go faster we may change the arena draw to manual to save time if machines are vacant. But the knockout format is what we will run by.
FORMAT: Two strike knockout
1) Seeding: IFPA
2) First round pairing: Adjacent - players will play their adjacent seed
3) General pairing: Swiss - players will play against players with the same win-loss record
4) Player order: Balanced - player with fewest play order choices chooses player order
5) Arena draws: Balanced - computer tries to allocate arenas that have been played the fewest times
6) Number of strikes: Two
7) Value of byes: Full win
8) Allocation of byes if needed: Random
