3 Tournament format
3.1 Overview
The tournament format for the APO 2015 was newly defined. The base inputs for the new definition
has been:
? The maximum WPPR points should be reached based on the actual WPPR rules
(>64 participants and minimum 25 meaningful games)
? All participants should play the whole 1st tournament day
? The 1st tournament day should be the qualification for the 2nd.
? The best players should play in a short and sweet final round
? A classic tournament shall be organized as well
Based on this input the tournament format has been defined*:
? On the 1st tournament day all participants (100) will play in one group based on the Swiss
system.
? The best 48 participants will be seeded for the 2nd day, where they will be split in 6 groups á
8 persons.
? The best 4 of each group are qualified for the grand final which will be played in single
elimination system (best of 3).
* if less then 96 participants will attend at the APO2015, then the amount of qualified participants will
be reduced for the 2nd day to reach a TGP of 100% as described in the actual WPPR rules.
3.2 Pinball machines
The tournament pinball machines are split on two floors of the Hall of Pinball Fame
? ~ 50 machines in ground floor of Hall of Pinball Fame
? ~15-20 machines in 2nd floor @ the showroom of Niegelhell GmbH
3.3 1st tournament day – seeding for the final round – Swiss system
On the 1st tournament day all participants (100) will play in one groups based on the Swiss system.
A minimum of 15 rounds will be played, even if the 15th round will not be finalized until 8pm. The
tournament committee decided after the 15th round if additional rounds will be played if it is before
8pm or if the 1st tournament day will be closed.
3.4 2nd tournament day – group session for the finalists
The best 48 participants will be qualified for the 2nd day final sessions.
The participants have to be present until 9:30 am to confirm their attendance. If a participant will not
show up, then the next ranked player will get the chance to play. If somebody which is qualified do
not want to attend on the 2nd tournament then this information should beforwarded to the tournament committee to inform already the next ranked participants that he is
qualified.
The split of the groups on the 2nd day depends on the ranking of the 1st day.
Each player has to compete against each other in his group (7 meaningful games). The players get for
each won game a point. The best four players in each group are qualified for the grand finale.
If two or more players in one group have the same amount of points then a direct battle has to be
played on a pinball machine, which is defined by the tournament director. The winner or the best
players are qualified for the grand finale.
3.5 2nd tournament day – grand finale
The 24 Finalist players play after the lunch in a single elimination (best of 3) to define the tournament
winners. The height of the points defines in the last game the position of the first 3 players.
