In just a few short days, February 27th, 2022 will mark the 16 year anniversary since the rebirth of the International Flipper Pinball Association.

On that day in 2006 the AMOA assigned the rights of the then defunct IFPA over to Steve Epstein and Roger Sharpe to see if they could elevate the awareness and visibility of pinball across the globe.

The World Pinball Player Rankings now has over 84,000 players from 42 countries and over 37,000 sanctioned events in the system.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support, but most importantly to the hundreds of volunteers that help the IFPA truly cover the globe in competitive pinball 24/7. We’re looking forward to seeing where we can take things in the years ahead!

Here are the January 2022 IFPA winners for Player of the Month and Biggest Movers:

Player of the Month:
Viggo Löwgren from Sweden (127.70 WPPR’s – MAIN)
Rachel Karlic from Chicago, IL (10.57 WPPR’s – WOMEN’S)

Biggest Movers:
Jen Avery from Bay City, MI (+10,530 spots)
David Leeds from Australia (+10,054 spots)
Naomi Porter from the United Kingdom (+9605 spots)

These players have now all qualified for the Stern Rewards Program for 2022. Congrats to everyone!

In the history of competitive pinball, very few (32 in fact) have had the chance to call themselves a Major Champion. Like professional golf or tennis, the opportunity to join this elite club only happens a handful of times every year. THE OPEN – IFPA World Championship brought together two finalists looking to add their name to this list (Colin Urban and Zach McCarthy) and two finalists looking to add to their already established legacies (Cayle George – 2-time Major Champion, 9-time Major Finalist and Raymond Davidson – 2-time Major Champion, 6-time Major Finalist).

In a clutch ball 3 come from behind victory on Rollergames in game 1 along with a victory on Mystery Castle in game 3, it was Zach McCarthy who became the latest player to be crowned World Champion, and the 33rd player in competitive pinball history to win a Major Championship.

With his 2nd place finish, Colin Urban earned his 2nd top 4 finish in Major Championships. 3rd place went to Cayle George who earned his 10th top 4 finish in Major Championships (6th most all time). 4th place went to Raymond Davidson who earned his 7th top 4 finish in Major Championships (9th most all time).
