Summary
The IFPA Norwegian Championship Series is an annual pinball competition where the qualification is done over a whole year (from 1st Jan till 31st Dec). All results of the public IFPA recognized tournaments held in Norway are considered for the qualification of the IFPA Norwegian Championship Series Final. At the beginning of the next calendar year the Final will be played by the 40 best players from the qualification and the champion is appointed. By special circumstances, the field can be increased/decreased by the IFPA Country Director of Norway.
Qualification:
Unlike most tournaments where the qualification process takes place over a couple of days at the tournament site, qualifying for the IFPA Norwegian Championship Series is based on results from all of the public IFPA endorsed tournaments held in Norway.
There is an additional starting point boost (instead of byes) for the top 16 players where ranks 1 – 4 will start with 7 points, ranks 5-8 will start with 5 points, rank 9 – 12 will start with 3 points and ranks 13 – 16 will start with 1 point.
In the event that any players are tied with the same amount of ranking points, we will look at their best event(s) until the tie can be resolved. By best it means the most WPPR points earned in an event. If any of the top 40 players are unable to participate, vacant places will be made available for the next best players who qualified in places 40+. This also includes the boost points, so when the final top 40 are set and confirmed, the boosting points will be given to the top 16 players confirmed and participating in the finals.
Everyone who is qualified for the tournament can participate (no limitation based on nationality or age), unless there is some extreme edge cases which would be decided in collaboration with IFPA.
Scoring:
For each player, the total sum of WPPR scores received for the tournaments count toward the Norwegian Championship Series.
Fees:
The entry fee for each event is determined by the individual tournament organizers. For Norway, the finals will be free for the players participating in the finals, this is a decision made by the country director and the host of the NCS finals is free to organize events (warmup, side, leftovers etc) around the finals to whatever fee they wish.
Finals Format:
40 players will play 11 rounds of group matchplay, each round consists of two machines, one modern and one classic/mid-era machine. Pairing for the first round will be IFPA slaughter, which means that top seed will be in a group with seed 20,21 and 40 etc. After the first round the pairing will be balanced, so that most players will meet each other to the degree possible within the matchplay system and total rounds.
Point system is 7-5-3-1.
Players who qualified 1-4 will start with 7 points, those who qualified 5-8 will start with 5 points, 9 – 12 th will start with 3 points and 13th – 16th will start with 1 point.
After 11 rounds, the top 16 players will advance to round 2. Should we be less people due to dropouts and not able to fill the spot, we will let max 50 % advance, to the closest even number. While we will use automatic tiebreak for deciding the seeding positions within top 16, if several players are tied with same amount of points for 16th place and advancement into round 2 tiebreakers will be played.
Malfunctions and rulings:
The rules for each individual tournament is up to the organizers to decide. In the finals the official IFPA rules will be followed. If special house rules are needed due to some circumstances it will be informed in advance.
Registration:
All players playing in an official public IFPA sanctioned tournament in Norway during the year will automatically be part of the championship series, but the top 40 which qualify for the finals will be contacted and must sign up for the finals within a given deadline, which they will be informed about.
