The World’s Best Pinball Players Face Off

There has been a growing rebirth of the venerable pinball machine. Whether nostalgia or a recent discovery of this mechanical marvel, across the globe the games are finding a place in the vast array of leisure time entertainment options. And nowhere is this resurgence more evident than the ongoing tournaments dotting the globe and soon to culminate as the International Flipper Pinball Association (IFPA) is pleased to announce the 18th IFPA World Pinball Championships.

For those who might have been hesitant to recognize pinball’s hold on millions of players, both young and old, this competition promises to demonstrate the wonder and majesty of the silverball. One of the most closely contested events in the history of competitive pinball, twenty countries will be represented in the field of 80 with the top ranked players in the world testing their flipper skills in head-to-head battles. It will be a test, not only of endurance and perseverance, but also the artistry necessary to control the nuances of a 2.6 ounce silver ball.

The 18th annual IFPA World Pinball Championship is scheduled for June 1-4, 2023 at Freddy’s Pinball Paradise in Echzell, Germany. The most prestigious event in competitive pinball, players will be determined by using the IFPA’s World Pinball Player Rankings.

In addition, also taking center stage is the 9th IFPA Epstein Cup. This unique competition features eight of America’s most talented pinballers facing off against eight of the world’s best flipper wizards in what is The Pinball Ryder Cup as the series current sits at 4 wins by each side over these past 8 years.

For the past 17 years, the International Flipper Pinball Association has been able to increase the number of ranked players to over 100,000 from across the globe (World Pinball Player Rankings). They are competing in over 8000 leagues and tournaments taking place under the direction of the association’s three dozen country directors and official event organizers.

The International Flipper Pinball Association was created with the express purpose of encouraging, supporting and endorsing competitive pinball throughout the world. The organization provides oversight and assistance to not only establishing pinball leagues but also tournaments and other promotional activities.

“There is a definite renaissance taking place around the world with pinball remaining a truly timeless and captivating leisure time entertainment attraction.” states Roger Sharpe, Co-Director of the IFPA. “It is a game that has always provided a unique tactile and totally immersive experience with a never-ending stream of technological advancements.
