Josh and Zach, how should I approach the various local news outlets to get attention for my local Superleague/Locations?
I hope not what a way to not get together with friends for a good tourney
Wayne – Shoot us an email and I’ll connect you with Zach who can definitely help
Yes, let’s not find more ways for pinball to be played on location in an attempt to make it a more viable commercial product . . .
IFPA – International Flipper Pinball Association we should call it the point hog selfless league,
I call it the “earnings doubled at the location” league 😉
This has proved to be great for our earnings and has brought myself and others love of competition back. Myself being a parent and having limited play time it really works out nice. Every time I go in to play its game on, there is something on the line! It’s awesome.
I would add that tons of the scores submitted in our league are from multiplayer games so I don’t see it hurting the social aspect at all on the contrary here I would say. Thanks to the IFPA for recognizing it’s worth! U0001f609
RCP/SSL Cbar Portland Come out and play!
To answer the original question: NO.
IFPA – International Flipper Pinball Association didn’t the rules get changed to push head to head play? I understand the selfie league is a good generator of revenue for OPS but that doesn’t mean it’s the best thing for pinball.
Selfie leagues still need a ‘final tournament’
The best comparison I gave to the Stern guys today who asked me about it . . .
Most monthly tournaments have everyone show up and you randomly assign the players into matches (bracket, strikes, match play, etc).
Selfie leagues still have players play matches on that finals day, except the seeding isn’t random, it’s based on the month long selfie-play at the location.
The “best thing for pinball” is a highly debatable subject. Many people would agree that there are tons of “good things for pinball” . . . THE BEST??? I have some ideas 😉
whats the max number percentage of players that can advance to finals? 50%?
It’s a cool idea, and if it is coupled with an in person finals that would be great. If reminds me a bit of online competitions for fighting games.
Yes, people still have to play in a tournament with others, but they are doing it conveniently from home. Pinball can take advantage of its single player capabilities to allow for more flexibility in how players can participate. So the convenience makes it more appealing to compete.
I do hope that all selfie leagues maintain an in person, match play finals. That is just more exciting to me, personally, than an all selfie league.
We’ll be starting a selfies league at Logan Arcade soon, but it’ll be as a complement to the regular, “social” league
It has to maintain an in person finals if that organizer wants it IFPA endorsed.
Awesome! I loved the recent podcast you recorded too, very informative!
For “A” yes. We do ours where everyone makes finals. We just separate out divisions every 4 spots. My mom is a dangerous G division competitor 😉
It’s sorta like a TiVo for pinball.
It’s the precursor to webcams, but yes this is another step in the right direction
