Tournament Overview

Start Date: October 03, 2018
End Date: December 05, 2018

The Grand Rapids Pinball League was started in November 2012 by Rodney Minch to provide an opportunity for individuals to play competitive pinball in a fun and laid back environment. The league is open to anyone who has an interest in playing pinball and all skill levels are welcome! If you are interested in joining the pinball league or have any questions, please check out the Grand Rapids Pinball League page on Facebook or email us at grpinball@gmail.com.

A season has 5 league nights for 3 consecutive months. League nights are the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. League nights take place at Pyramid Scheme Bar which is located at 68 Commerce Ave SW in Grand Rapids, Michigan. League matches start promptly at 7pm and typically run about 2 hours. Players are welcome and encouraged to come early and/or stay later to practice and socialize.

Players will be put into groups of 4. There may be groups of 3 depending on how many league players we have each night. Each league night, total points earned will move you up or down in position and determine which group you play with on the next league night. Groupings will be determined on the day of league depending on who shows up. This way we will have as many 4 player groups as possible.

Every league night, each group will play 5 different pinball machines. Each person in a group gets to pick at least one machine to play. The 5th machine played in the group will be determined by whoever scored the most points in their group. If one or more players are tied for points, the person who had the most 1st place finishes in their group that night wins. If still tied, then whoever had the most 2nd place finishes, then 3rd, then 4th. If there is still a tie, then flip a coin to determine the winner. In a 3 player group, the top 2 players get to pick a second machine.

A player cannot pick the same machine twice in a season. Two players cannot pick the same machine in the same group on the same night as well. Also, if another group is playing the machine you want to pick, you can only wait for that machine if the group is on ball 3. This is to keep things moving smoothly and not cause bottlenecks.

Score in a 4 player group will be 7, 5, 3 and 1. In a 3 player group, the score is 7, 4 and 1. The most points a player can earn in one night is 35. If a player missed 1 league night, 50% of their average league score during the season will be given to them for that 1 missed night.

The winner will be determined at the end of the 5th league night. Current player standings can be view at http://www.grpl.info.

There are no fees to join the league. The only cost to league members is the coin drop on each machine played. Hope to see you there!
