Help Barry Oursler Campaign

962289_1390518317.9864Famous pinball designer Barry Oursler is seeking donations to raise money for treatment for himself and his wife Donna. In February 2013, Barry was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. The treatments and prescriptions are not covered 100% by insurance, so the bills are piling up. Last July, Donna was diagnosed with kidney failure. As a result, she must receive dialysis 3 times per week. Please read his story and donate HERE.

The IFPA would like to help by offering all tournament orgnaizers a chance to run an event to help raise funds for the Oursler's. Similar to the Flip Off Hunger campaign, the IFPA plans on treating each of these Oursler tournaments as a unique event, worth full value WPPR points, even if a particular location is already hosting another annual event in 2014. Get in touch with the IFPA at [email protected] if you're interested in setting up an event and we'll work with you on getting it added to the IFPA calendar. We hope to set up events nationwide and use competitive pinball as a way to help Barry and his wife out in this unfortunate situation.

Cayle George wins the 2014 NW Oh Pin!

Bdws0GSCEAA8KD7The 2014 NW Oh Pin was held at Blairally Vintage Arcade this past weekend. The structure of the main tournament was what we call a decades tournament. Each decade (70s, 80s, 90s) has a bank of three machines. Each entry requires you to pick 2 out of 3 machines in a decade to play. You take your highest scoring entry from each decade and sum them. This total across all decades determines your qualifying rank. Then nine games in the tournament this year were Jet Spin, Supersonic, Meteor, Banzi Run, Medusa, Space Invaders, Radical, Doctor Who, and Breakshot.

We had a great turnout this year and attracted some fun players. The top four at the end of the day were Cayle George (1st), Kevin Birrell (2nd), Aaron Nelson (3rd), and Noah Davis (4th), with Cayle and Kevin battling it out in a tie-breaker on Jet Spin for 1st place.

A couple spectacular displays of skill were Cayle's 200 loops on Doctor Who in the semis and Aaron's 6 million plus game of Banzai Run in the finals. And let's not forget Noah's one handed  game of Jet Spin in the finals.
