CALLING ALL PINBALL WIZARDS II!

Stern has been working with China to introduce pinball to the millions of potential players out there. The IFPA is looking for a representative to accompany Stern on a trip to China to help generate interest in the game. They are looking for someone to do demonstrations and to educate players with the help of a translator.

If anyone has any interest in becoming a poorly compensated consultant for a couple of weeks out in China please contact the IFPA at [email protected].

I would love to help out. Anytime is fine. For more information about me please visit the following link:

I played alot back in the early 90s and have only just started playing again. I used to play with Rob Macintosh and Josh Holmes. We were the best pinball players in Australia at the time. In fact we have our names in the attract mode of Scared Stiff. This was possible due to Cameron Silver who used to be a technician at TimeZone getting a job at Williams/Bally. He helped create Scared Stiff. He was a software developer that worked on this game. Due to computer games taking over, amusement centres gradually disappeared which is one of the reason why I stopped playing. Most if not all of the pinball operators out there had no idea about how to set up a good pinball machine. As a result I bought Star Trek and World Cup Soccer and leased these out to pubs and universities.

Idiots. Hire a real company to represent you. What will they do, wander around the streets?

Nobody said they wasn’t hiring a company to help them, but obviously they would like a better player to help show the skill portion of pinball and not some marketing flunky that pushes both flippers together wildly.

Mike — thats interesting that you would assume they were idiots. 1) they are hiring a translator, so thats appropriate representation and who’s to assume they aren’t getting a PR firm to schedule events? 2) you want them to hire a “real” company to teach pinball? I’m not sure there is a company that teaches pinball.

They are recruiting a person to teach pinball with the help of a translator. Maybe you didn’t understand.

I would love to go, but I only know the rules and how to play, not the mechanical terms and tech know-how (I still don’t own a machine…I know, shame on me…though I hope to win one at next year’s IFPA!).
What about you or your brother? You’d be great candidates! Though I think the best would be Bowen Kerins…he’s got a knack for explaining the rules and techniques as well as showing the beauty of the game.

Translating pinball terminology and other related jargon would be difficult for a Chinese person that has never had contact with a pinball machine. I have lived there and there isn’t even one standard term for a pinball machine, as I have heard a few.
